Healthcare Support
Our organization focuses on providing resources and aid to our community through partnerships with the local government and healthcare agencies. Our volunteers have been trained in Mental Health First Aid, CPR, and Victim Advocacy to educate and connect resources for those in need. Our major project during the pandemic was the mask-making project as well as mediation to promote mental health.
Supporting our Community
Mask Making for Covid-19
Due to the pandemic, all of our volunteer activity came to a full stop by April 2020. Many of us were trying to adapt to the new norm and brainstormed we could continue our efforts to serve the community. We began making masks for local hospitals and organizations and raised funds to give grants to organizations that assist underserved minority groups. Our goal of 1,000 masks helped many hospitals. Our volunteers worked everyday sewing and ironing and delivering the masks to healthcare workers, police officers, and local residents in need.
VITAS Healthcare
In partnership with VITAS Healthcare, our volunteers made posters and decorated cars to show support and thanks to our frontline workers during the pandemic. Healthcare Appreciation Parade was successful as we visited hospitals and hospices and were greeted by the staff and residents.
Mental Health First Aid
About 1 in 5 adults in the U.S. in a given year has a diagnosable mental illness. Symptoms of mental illness can be difficult to detect – and even when friends and family can tell that something is wrong, they may not know how to help. Mental Health First Aid is a skills-based training course that teaches participants about mental health and substance-use issues. Our volunteers received training and certification to assist our community members who are facing a mental health crisis.
BRAWS
BRAWS (Bringing Resources To Aid Women’s Shelters) provides menstrual supplies and undergarments to women and children in crisis, who do not have access to basic needs. Our organization raises funds and in-kind donations to support the women and girls in our community and abroad. BRAWS also provides aid to earthquake victims in Haiti, Afghan and Ukrainian refugees, women and girls in shelters and schools, and those affected by the Pandemic.
